This is a customized itinerary, consisting of 12 Days/11 Nights in Southern Africa and requiring 2 travel days/nights, with direct flights from JFK and Washington D.C. on South African Airways to South Africa and back to the U.S.A.

Start your journey with your arrival in Cape Town, the “Mother City” of South Africa, where you will spend 3 nights. Highlights are taking the cable car up Table Mountain, visiting Cape Point, the Penguin Colony at Boulders and one of the local Wine Estates. Then fly to Hoedspruit for your amazing safari experience in the Karongwe Private Game Reserve for 3 nights. Next, visit the magnificent Victoria Falls for 2 nights.
Optional 2 night extension in Chobe Botswana for safari in the Chobe National Park available upon request and based on availability.

Itinerary

DAY 1OVERNIGHT TRAVEL

Overnight USA to Africa

DAY 2CAPE TOWN

Arrive at the Johannesburg Airport. Go through passport control and customs, and check in for your flight to Cape Town. Upon arrival at the Cape Town Airport, be met by your driver/guide and transferred to your hotel in Cape Town, the Commodore Hotel, conveniently located on the famous Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. Check into your standard room for 3 nights on Bed & Breakfast basis. Enjoy a free evening, with dinner on your own account.

DAY 3CAPE TOWN

After breakfast, visit Table Mountain via the Cable Car (weather permitting), the World’s new Seventh Wonder, or visit Signal Hill (if weather does not allow visit to Table Mountain’s summit). Visit Jewel Africa for a diamond cutting demonstration. You will also find exquisitely unique hand-crafted jewelry pieces, authentic African craft, décor and gift items. Have a City Tour and see some of the places of interest in South Africa’s “Mother City” such as Bokaap before proceeding to the Groot Constantia Wine Estate, the oldest wine estate in South Africa, for a cellar tour and a wine tasting of some of their locally grown wines. You will have lunch at the local restaurant (on your own account). In the afternoon, visit Original T-Bag Designs in Hout Bay, a local community project. Return to your hotel for a free evening. Dinner is on your own account and can be enjoyed at the hotel or at one of the many restaurants on the V&A Waterfront which lies within easy walking distance.

DAY 4CAPE TOWN

After breakfast, depart from your hotel with your private driver/guide. Travel along the beautiful coast to Hout Bay and along the spectacular Chapman’s Peak. Visit Cape Point, the most south-western point of the African Continent. Walk to the top of the mountain and enjoy the beautiful view of the ocean and the surrounding area. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant overlooking False Bay, on your own account. After lunch visit the local African Penguin Colony at Boulders Beach. On your way back to town, stop in Simons Town, South Africa’s Naval Base, to visit the statue of “Just Nuisance” and hear the story about this legend. In the afternoon, visit the Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy this beautiful garden and the diverse selection of local plants and flowers. At the exit of the garden is a gift shop worth browsing through. Return to your hotel for a free evening. Dinner is on your own account.

DAYS 5 - 7KRUGER PRIVATE RESERVES

After an early breakfast, check out of your hotel and be transferred to the Cape Town Airport. Check in for your flight from Cape Town to Hoedspruit in the Greater Kruger Park. Upon arrival at the Hoedspruit Airport, be met by your game ranger and transferred in your open safari vehicle to the Karongwe River Lodge in the Karongwe Private Game Reserve. Check into your suite for 3 nights. Enjoy lunch and your first game drive that afternoon.

A typical day in the Game Reserve:

Each morning, expect an early wake-up call. Gather for refreshments before heading out at first light. The “big cats” may still be around after their night of hunting. Game drives are conducted in open game vehicles with your skilled ranger and tracker to find the animals of Africa for you to admire.

Between your morning and afternoon game drives, have some free time go on a guided walking safari, to relax or be treated at the local Spa. Late afternoon, convene for high tea, before departing for the day’s second African Bush Safari. Enjoy a sundowner drink along the way, get out of the vehicle to stretch your legs, and watch the sun set. Return to the lodge for dinner.

Enjoy the next few days at this lovely in the private game reserve on safari.

DAY 8JOHANNESBURG

Enjoy your last game drive in Karongwe Game Reserve. After breakfast, check out of the lodge and be transferred to the Hoedspruit Airport by your game ranger. Check in for your flight to Johannesburg. Upon arrival in Johannesburg at the O.R. Tambo International Airport, collect your luggage and walk to the City Lodge O.R. Tambo which is conveniently located next to the airport. Check in for 1 night on Bed & Breakfast basis. Dinner is on your own account.

DAY 9VICTORIA FALLS, ZIMBABWE

After breakfast, walk to the airport terminal to check in for your flight from Johannesburg to Victoria Falls. Be sure to have your $30.00 in cash to pay for your Zimbabwe visa when you arrive at the Victoria Falls Airport. Be met at the airport and transferred to the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge to check in for 2 nights. You can order a light lunch at the Lodge (on your own account). In the afternoon, transfer to the Zambezi River for an unforgettable luxury Sunset Cruise on the Zambezi Royal. Enjoy the abundant wildlife and the beautiful sunset scenes. Wine and savory refreshments will be served along the way. Return to the lodge for dinner served at 7:00 pm.

DAY 10VICTORIA FALLS, ZIMBABWE

Enjoy your breakfast overlooking the waterhole below the lodge. You might see various animals visit the waterhole. After breakfast, tour the spectacular Victoria Falls. Visit the local craft market. Next have a Home Hosted Lunch in a local home. You will have the opportunity to experience the local culture, learn more about it and ask your host questions regarding their culture and customs. Be transferred to the Lookout Point. You will also have the opportunity to participate in some optional activities on your own account, such as the gorge swing or the Flying Fox. Be returned to the lodge for an afternoon at your leisure. During your stay at this lodge, you will meet with a local historian who will tell you the story of David Livingstone. At 7:00 pm, be transferred to the Boma for an enjoyable and festive evening with a traditional dinner and live entertainment. Return to the lodge for overnight.

DAY 11OVERNIGHT TRAVEL

Enjoy breakfast, check out and be transferred to the airport to check in for your flight to Johannesburg. Upon arrival in Johannesburg, check in for your flight back home, arriving back home the following day.
