If 9 days of golf isn’t quite enough for you, then this 10-day golf challenge may be what you are looking for. The route is slightly different to the ‘Golf Safari’ and there are therefore different courses and highlights to enjoy.

Itinerary

Day 1Cape Town

11h00: Depart from Platform 23 at Cape Town Station. Visit the historic village of Matjiesfontein at 18h00.

Day 2Kimberley

14h00: Tour of Kimberley’s Big Hole and Diamond Mine Museum. Travel from the Karoo to the Highveld.

Day 3Pretoria

10h00: Enjoy a Rovos Rail Station tour, platform lunch and city tour of Pretoria. Depart at 18h00.

Day 4Madikwe Reserve

11h00: Arrive Zeerust for a full-board two-night stay at Tau Lodge, Madikwe Reserve.

Day 5Madikwe Reserve

Early morning game drive, afternoon game drive and guest activities. Overnight at lodge.

Day 6Tropic of Capricorn

Early morning game drive. Transfer to the train in Botswana with border formalities en route.
13h30: Travel north from Gaborone and cross the Tropic of Capricorn en route to the Zimbabwean border.

Day 7 Hwange National Park

Traverse Zimbabwe along the edge of Hwange National Park. A day of leisure with lectures by the onboard historian

Day 8Victoria Falls

12h00: Arrive Victoria Falls. Transfer to Victoria Falls Hotel. Sunset cruise on the Zambezi. Dinner at hotel.

Day 9Victoria Falls

A Day of leisure. Optional activities for own account include Falls tour, a flight of the angels, whitewater rafting, golf, etc.
16h00: The train departs Victoria Falls, crossing the bridge en route to Zambia

Day 10Lusaka

Travel to Kapiri Mposhi via the Kafue Bridge and Lusaka. A day at leisure with lectures by the onboard historian

Day 11Traverse Zambia

Traverse Zambia in a northeasterly direction. A day at leisure with lectures by the onboard historian.

Day 12Chisimba Falls

08h00: Disembark at Kasama for a morning excursion to Chisimba Falls.
The train climbs the escarpment to the Tanzanian border and the highland valley of Mbeya – the ‘Scotland of Africa’.

Day 13Udzungwa Mountains

09h00: Stroll in Makambako (time permitting). Descend the spectacular pass into the Rift Valley along the Udzungwa
Mountains and enter the Selous Game Reserve. Lectures on board by the historian.

Day 14Selous Game Reserve

Game visit in the Selous Game Reserve (time permitting). Travel towards Gwata for an overnight stop.

Day 15Dar es Salaam

10h00: Arrive at journey’s end at Tazara Station in Dar es Salaam.
