December 5, 2017 – Cape Town – Vineyard Hotel – 3 nights

Program:

Arrive at the Johannesburg Airport. Go through passport control and customs, and check in for your flight to Cape Town. Upon arrival at the Cape Town Airport, be met by your private driver/guide and transferred to your hotel in Cape Town, the Vineyard Hotel, conveniently located on the famous V&A Waterfront. Check into your Standard Room for 3 nights on Bed & Breakfast basis.

December 6, 2017 – Cape Town – Table Mountain/City/V&A Waterfront/Wine Estate – B

  • Overnight: Vineyard Hotel

Program:

After breakfast, visit Table Mountain via the Cable Car (weather permitting), the World’s new Seventh Wonder, or visit Signal Hill (if weather does not allow visit to Table Mountain’s summit). Visit Jewel Africa for a diamond cutting demonstration. You will also find exquisitely unique hand crafted jewelry pieces, authentic African craft, décor and gift items.  Have a City Tour, ending up on the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront to have lunch at a local restaurant (on your own account). In the afternoon, visit the Original T-Bag Designs in Hout Bay, a local community project. Continue to a local wine estate and hotel for a site inspection. Return to your hotel. Dinner is on your own account.

December 7, 2017 – Cape Town – Cape Point – B

Program:

After breakfast depart from your hotel and travel along the beautiful coast and along the spectacular Chapman’s Peak Drive. Visit Cape Point, the most south-western point of the African Continent.  Walk to the top of the mountain and enjoy the beautiful view of the ocean and the surrounding area. Have lunch at a restaurant overlooking False Bay. After lunch visit the local African Penguin Colony at Boulders Beach.  If time permits, visit Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy these beautiful gardens and the diverse selection of local plants and flowers. Return to your hotel for a free evening. Dinner is on your own account.

December 8, 2017 – Stellenbosch Winelands – Lanzerac Hotel & Spa – 1 Night – B/D

Program:

After breakfast, check out of the Commodore Hotel and travel to the Stellenbosch Winelands. Visit the Taal Monument, a monument for the Afrikaans Language. Enjoy the beautiful view of the surrounding area and all the way to Table Mountain. Visit the Spice Route and have lunch at a local restaurant (on your own account). Drive through Stellenbosch, the second-oldest town in South Africa. Proceed to the Lanzerac Wine Estate and check into the Lanzerac Hotel & Spa for 1 night. You will tour their local wine cellar followed by a wine tasting of their locally produced wines. Next, you will have a site inspection of this hotel complex. A Special Dinner will be served at one of the restaurants on this wine estate.

December 9, 2017 – Thornybush Private Game Reserve, Greater Kruger – 1 Night – B/L/D

Program:

After breakfast, check out of the hotel and walk to the check-in counters to check in for your flight to Hoedspruit in the Greater Kruger Park. Upon arrival at the Hoedspruit Airport, be met and transferred to the Thornybush Waterside Lodge in the Thornybush Private Game Reserve.  Check into your Suites for 1 night. Enjoy lunch and your first game drive that afternoon.  You will have the chance to see the Big 5 – elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard.

Each of the full days at the Private Game Reserve will include:

All meals and two daily game drives in open Landrover vehicles with your skilled ranger and tracker to find the animals of Africa for you to admire. This is Big 5 Country…..Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino and Buffalo all of which are possible to see during your stay at this private game reserve. Each morning, expect an early wakeup call and gather for refreshments before heading out at first light. The “big cats” may still be around after their night of hunting.  During the day, there is ample free time go on a guided walking safari, to relax or participate in several optional activities. Late afternoon, convene for high tea, before departing for the day’s second African Bush Safari. Enjoy a sundowner drink along the way, get out of the vehicle to stretch your legs, and watch the sun go down over the distant Drakensberg Mountains.  As darkness descends, it’s time to continue the Game Drive to let the tracker scan the landscape with a spotlight picking out the glinting eyes of nocturnal animals. Return to the lodge for dinner.

December 10, 2017 – Karongwe Private Game Reserve, Greater Kruger – 1 Night – B/L/D

  • Meals: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Program:

Get up early for a game drive. Stop along the way for some coffee and refreshments. Return to the lodge for breakfast. Check out of your lodge and transfer to Karongwe Private Game Reserve where you will check into your suite at the Karongwe River Lodge for 1 night. In the afternoon, you will depart for your dusk game drive in open Landrover vehicles. Stop along the way and enjoy your sundowner with some snacks. Continue with you game drive into the night before returning to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

As time permits during your stay at the Karongwe River Lodge, you will also do site inspections at the other lodges in this private game reserve.

December 11, 2017 – Kapama Private Game Reserve, Greater Kruger – 2 Nights – B/L/D

  • Overnight: Kapama River Lodge
  • Meals: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Program:

Wake-up call will be around 5:30 AM followed by tea & coffee, then depart for your morning game drive. Return to the lodge by 9:30 AM for breakfast. Check out and depart the Karongwe Game Reserve at 11:00 AM and transfer to the Kapama Private Game Reserve.  Check into the Kapama River Lodge Suites or SPA Suites and have lunch. While visiting the Kapama Private Game Reserve, you will have the opportunity of seeing other lodges in the reserve. Enjoy a game drive before returning to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

December 12, 2017 – Kapama Private Game Reserve, Greater Kruger – B/L/D

Program:

Get up early for your morning game drive. Return to the lodge for breakfast. Mid-morning, check out of your room and be picked up from the Lodge to transfer to the airport for your flight to Johannesburg. Upon arrival at the Johannesburg Airport, check into the City Lodge O.R. Tambo for 1 night on Bed & Breakfast basis. This hotel is conveniently located next to the airport. Dinner is on your own account.

December 14, 2017 – Victoria Falls – 2 Nights – B/D

  • Overnight: Victoria Falls Safari Lodge
  • Meals: Breakfast; Dinner

Program:

Have an early breakfast and check out by 08:30AM to meet Robin and the rest of the group in the hotel lobby. Walk with the group to the airport terminal and check in for your flight to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Remember to have US$30 in cash to pay for your Visa upon arrival at the Victoria Falls Airport! Upon arrival at the Victoria Falls Airport, go through customs and be transferred to the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge. Check in for 2 nights. Settle into your rooms before being transferred to the A’Zambezi Lodge for a site inspection. Next, enjoy a Sunset Cruise on the Zambezi River. You will have the opportunity of seeing various animals and abundant birdlife on this sunset cruise. Drinks and snacks will be served along the way. After the cruise, be transferred to the Boma – Place of Eating, where you will experience an unforgettable evening of Zimbabwe cuisine with live entertainment, including dancers, singers, local story teller and drumming. Return to the lodge for overnight.

December 15, 2017 – Victoria Falls – B/L/D

  • Overnight: Victoria Falls Safari Lodge

Program:

After breakfast, tour the spectacular Victoria Falls, one of the greatest natural wonders of the world. Visit the local craft market where you will be able to purchase hand-crafted items directly from the local craftsmen. Visit the Batonka Guest Lodge for a site inspection. Next, enjoy a Home Hosted Lunch in a local home. In the afternoon visit the Elephant Camp, a luxury tented lodge, for a site inspection. If time permits, experience an elephant interaction. Visit the Lookout Point for a site inspection. Return to the lodge to freshen up. Enjoy dinner at the lodge.

December 16, 2017 – Return Home OR Chobe, Botswana, Extension – B

Program:

Enjoy breakfast, overlooking the water hole. Check out of your room, be picked up from the Lodge and transfer to the Imbabala Lodge for a site inspection. Next, be transferred across the border into Botswana to the Chobe Safari Lodge which lies on the Chobe River. If you enjoy bird watching, this is the place to be! Enjoy lunch before departing for your afternoon game activity, a sunset game cruise on the Chobe River. You will have the chance of seeing abundant game such as hippos, elephants, and crocodile, as well as abundant bird life.  Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

December 17, 2017 – Chobe, Botswana – B/L/D

  • Overnight: Chobe Game Lodge
  • Meals: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Program:

Get up early for your morning game drive in the Chobe National Park. The Chobe National Park is known for its large numbers of elephant and for its prolific bird life. Your will also see other game, including the Puku, an antelope endemic to this region. Return to your lodge for breakfast. Enjoy the day, relaxing around the pool overlooking the waterhole.  After lunch and a rest, depart for your afternoon sunset game cruise on the Chobe River. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

December 18, 2017 – Return Home – B

Get up early for your morning boat cruise on the Chobe River. Return to the lodge for breakfast. Mid-morning, check out of your room and be picked up from the Lodge to transfer to the airport for your flight to Johannesburg. Arrive at the Johannesburg Airport. Check in for your flight to return to US. Arrive back in the U.S.A the following day

JOURNEY TO ETHIOPIA

ITINERARY

Day 1 (November 19, 2017): Arrival
Upon arrival you will be welcomed by your guide and drive about 15 minutes to your hotel.

Day 2 (November 20, 2017): Fly Addis – Bahir Dar
Early in the morning, fly from Addis to the lake side town of Bahir Dar. After check-in to your Hotel, drive 32 km southwest of Bahir Dar to the small town of Tiss Abay and walk for twenty minutes to visit the famous Blue Nile Falls. The fall plunges 45 meters below, giving rise to steam clouds, smoke for fire, which is locally known as ‘Tiss Issat’. Walk about 20 minutes to an interesting viewpoint. In the afternoon, you will make a boat trip on Ethiopia’s largest water body, Lake Tana (3,600sq km) to visit the monasteries of Ura Kidane Mihret and Azwa Mariam which are found on the largest peninsula of the lake. These monasteries are known for the colorful frescoes of religious scenes, and an impressive display of illuminated bibles written in Ge’ez, Ethiopia’s oldest language.

Day 3 (November 21, 2017): Bahirdar
Today you will have an excursion to Awramba village. The Awramba community is all from Amhara community consisting of about 400 residents in 18 hectare of land selling since 1972. Several culture and religious, philosophies of the Amhara community make them isolated from the Amhara ethnic group unlike majority of Amharas, they declared themselves free from any religious demonstrations and do not believe in the creation. They refer themselves as best escape route from poverty and hunger, not by religion or prayer but education and integrated social ethics and hard works.

Day 4 (November 22, 2017): Drive Bahir Dar – Gondar

Drive from Bahir Dar to Gondar – the 17 th century capital of Ethiopia. In the afternoon, visit the Imperial Castle Compound of Gondar (UNESCO World Heritage Site), the ‘Bath of Emperor Fasiladas’, the church of Quskuam Mariam (17 th century AD), the residence of Empress Mintewab, and the church of Debre Birhan Sillassie which is famous for its wall and ceiling paintings.

Day 5 (November 23, 2017): Gondar – Simien Mountains National Park
Drive from Gondar to Simien Mountains National Park, that occupies a surface area of 180 km sq. The park is situated between 4,430 and 1,900 (6,200-4,500 feet), boasts varied flora with three marked botanical areas. The highest parts have meadows with little vegetations, characteristic of Afro Alpine Zones.

Day 6 (November 24, 2017): SMNP – Gondar
In the morning spend some time at the park seeing the endemic mammal of Ethiopia – the Gelada Baboon and the breathtaking scenery of the Simien Mountains. Then drive to Gondar for an overnight.

Day 7 (November 25, 2017): Gondar – Axum
After breakfast, transfer to the airport and fly to Axum- the most ancient capital of Ethiopia. This morning, visit the Archeological museum of Axum and the Cathedral of St. Mary of Zion, which is believed to be the last resting place of the Original Ark of the Covenant. In the afternoon, visit the famous ‘Stele field’ (4 th Century AD and UNESCO World Heritage Site, the ruin palace and tomb of King Kaleb and King Gebre Meskel (5 th and 6 th Century AD) and the residence of the legendary Queen of Sheba (9 th century BC).

Day 8 (November 26, 2017): Drive Axum – Mekelle
Drive from Axum to Mekelle through the Tigray Mountains and also the bloodiest battle field, Adwa, on which Ethiopians won the Italizn Colonizers. En route visit the Yeha Temple (5 th Century BC), and the rock hewn churches of Abreha Atsebeha (10 th Century AD) and Wukro Cherkos (10 th Century AD).

Day 9 (November 27, 2017): Drive Mekelle – Lalibela
With a picnic lunch on the way drive 360km to Lalibela which is home to the incredible rock hewn churches of King Lalibela in the 12 th and 13 th century whom the town is named after. On the way visit the tribal villages of the Amhara people and Scenic Wollo Mountains.

Day 10 (November 28, 2017): Lalibela
In the morning, visit the first group churches of Lalibela (UNESCO World Heritage Site) which are found northeast of a stream named ‘River Jordan’. In the afternoon, visit the second and the third group of churches of Lalibela.

Day 11 (November 29, 2017): Fly Lalibela – Addis
Fly back to Addis. In the afternoon have a sightseeing tour of Addis that includes visiting the National Archeological Museum and Mercato – the largest open air market in Africa.

Day 12 (November 30, 2017): Addis
Today drive west of Addis Ababa to visit Melka Kunture Archeological Site and Tiya Stele. Then in the free time you have, you will be inspecting hotels in Addis Ababa. In the evening, you will have farewell dinner at one of the best traditional restaurants of Addis to see the folkloric dances of the Ethiopian people and to taste the variety of meals of the Ethiopian People.
Transfer to the airport for your departure.
